Essential Oil Quick Usage Guide - Absentmindedness

Have you ever walked into a room with the intention of doing something and forgetting what it was? Or, how about writing a to-do list but forgetting about the actual list? I know I have on occasion, and when these instances start to become daily occurrences things can start feeling a little scary.

Thankfully, as more and more research is conducted on essential oils, we learn more about their powerful abilities, some of which include their ability to sharpen focus and improve memory.

The following essential oils in today’s quick usage guide are proven to stimulate the brain and even help reverse the symptoms of absentmindedness, memory loss, dementia, and even Alzheimer’s.

The Best Essential Oils for Absentmindedness

Absentmindedness is where a person or person’s behavior or manner has or shows a habitually forgetful or inattentive disposition.

Some people can be naturally forgetful without any underlying condition while others suffer from memory loss due to senility, dementia, and disease.

There are a few essential oils that have been found to dramatically improve learning and cognition due to their anti-senility effect.

– Basil linalool
– Cardamom
– Frankincense
– Lemongrass
– Peppermint – helps prevent the development of absentmindedness
– Rosemary – use of this oil results in higher brain performance and cognitive function
– Sandalwood
– Vetiver – one of the best cognitive oils! Simply diffusing this or sniffing it from the bottle works wonders.

Lavender essential oil has been shown to dramatically help those with Alzheimer’s by reducing anxiety, depression, and restoring a sense of balance.

Essential Oil Recipes for Absentmindedness

Recommended Blend #1

– 1 drop basil linalool
– 1 drop cardamom
– 1 drop rosemary
– 1 drop peppermint

Add this blend to the cotton pad of a personal nasal inhaler and breathe gently yet deeply through the nose and out the mouth as needed. You can also diffuse this blend. Mix this blend in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and apply a small amount to neck, wrists, and temples and desired.

Recommended Blend #2

– 1 drop Sandalwood
– 1 drop frankincense
– 1 drop cardamom
– 1 drop rosemary

Use as above.

How to Combat Absentmindedness in Everyday Life

While essential oils are a fantastic way to help support a sharp mind, it’s also important to practice daily rituals that will help solidify those results.

Here are a few tips that can help you stay on track:

1. Make Lists

Taking a moment each morning before your day begins or at the beginning of your work shift to write a to-do list is one of the best ways to combat absentmindedness.

It ensures that you’ve listed all the important things you need to get done that day so you can cross them off as you go.

The key here is to do one item at a time in order of priority if possible.

List what time you would like to get each task started, even the mundane-sounding ones like “start the laundry.”

If it helps you stay on track, write it down!

Keep the list somewhere visible or somewhere where you won’t forget about it and check it throughout the day.

2. Give Important Items a Permanent Home

This is a great way to start a daily routine that actually prevents you from forgetting things.

For example, if you always forget your books for school, your keys, or some other item you need every day, start by forming a ritual.

This might be something like walking in the door when you get home and placing your keys in a designated dish in the entryway.

For schoolwork and books or the like, place them in your bag as soon as your finish homework. Place your bag near the front door afterward.

If you’re terrible at remembering to take your supplements, place them in a designated area where you WILL remember to take them and then also designate a time to take them.

For example, I keep my supplements behind the bathroom mirror, but I remember to take them because I take them before I brush my teeth every morning.

It’s simple things like this that help you remember things without thinking about them because they have become an ingrained daily habit.

3. Set Timers or Alarms

Setting a timer for things is another great way to keep you from forgetting things!

This can be done on a daily basis at the same time to remind you to complete tasks like getting in your meditation for the morning, taking supplements, etc.

It can also be used to remind you of important upcoming events, meetings, or even just get-togethers with friends and family.

Whatever the reason, a timer or alarm will help snap you out of whatever you’re doing at the moment and will re-direct your attention so that you don’t lose track of time.

They can also help remind you to do something like getting to your dental appointment!

4. Use a Schedule and Follow it

Just like setting timers and alarms, using a schedule, especially on your phone, is a great way to stay on task.

It may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised just how much you can improve your ability to remember things just by putting them into a schedule.

5. Delegate

Sometimes you really can’t remember everything. This applies both at home and in the workplace. If you’re in a position to delegate responsibilities, do it!

Asking your significant other to help you get things done isn’t nagging, it’s working together to accomplish a task. This can be as simple as taking out the trash, remembering to pay a bill, or picking up the kids from school.

At work, delegating helps you focus on other important tasks you may be responsible for.

So, don’t ever feel like you have to remember everything, because you don’t!
