How to Make Stress Away

I figured now was as good a time as any to share with you how to make the fabled Stress Away essential oil blend. The holidays can really wear on us, so it’s good to have some oils on hand to help us cope with planning, visiting relatives, the endless cooking, and the clean-up afterward.

So if you’ve been feeling the stress creeping up on you, then this is the blend for you!

How to Make Stress Away

Stress Away is an amazing blend with a gentle fragrance that instills a feeling of peace and tranquility that relieves stress and nervous tension.

I like to use it not only for everyday stress, but also for mental clarity and response, emotional equilibrium, relaxation, and calmness.

I think out of YL’s blends, I’ve gone through the most bottles of Stress Away by far!

Here’s what you need to make your own 5ml bottle of Stress Away:

• One empty 5ml essential oil bottle
•
5 drops ocotea essential oil
•
9 drops lavender essential oil
• 9 drops cedarwood essential oil
• 19 drops copaiba essential oil
• 19 drops lime essential oil (steam distilled is recommended. Read why here)
• 39 drops vanilla in jojoba oil (or 10-20 drops vanilla absolute)

This recipe will make 100 drops worth (5ml) of Stress Away. Feel free to multiply as needed for a larger batch.

Loving Preparation – Stress Away Recipe

1. Simply add each essential oil to an empty 5ml essential oil bottle.

2. Cap closed and roll between your palms to mix.

3. Allow the blend to “synergize” for a few days if possible to let the oils meld. You will notice the aroma mature and “age” making the perfect dupe for the original Stress Away blend!

To Use

To make a roll-on version of this blend, simply add 5-8 drops to a 10ml roll-on bottle filled with your favorite carrier oil. Apply this the wrists, the back of the neck, or even on your collar bones. Breathe deeply for a few breathes and feel the stress relieving power of these essential oils.

One 5ml bottle of pure Stress Away will make you upwards of 20 roll-ons!! That’s a steal considering that a 15ml bottle of Stress Away costs between $30-$40 and the roll-on version (which is diluted) costs the SAME!!

You can also put 5-10 drops of this blend in a diffuser or add it to a spritzer bottle of water to make a room spray.

Why These Essential Oils Work for Stress Relief

Copaiba

Copaiba essential oil is an oleoresin just like frankincense and myrrh. This to me signifies that copaiba has properties reminiscent of the trees it came from in the sense that resins make up its life’s blood. Just like physical wounds, resin-based essential oils are known for their abilities to protect, seal, and heal a wound both within and without.

Historically, copaiba essential oil was used in folk medicines for inflammation and anti-tumoral healing. Nowadays, copaiba is more recognized for its skin healing properties and its ability to sedate and soothe an overactive nervous system.

Copaiba is also added to blends in order to ramp up the effectiveness of other essential oils in the blend.

Lime

Lime essential oil seems like an unassuming oil indeed, but don’t be fooled! Lime is actually a powerful EO known for its ability to relieve stress by stimulating the brain, clearing destructive circulating thoughts, relieving apathy, and reducing anxiety and nervousness. In fact, lime is a key oil in the treatment of stress when our “fight or flight” sympathetic nervous system is out of control.

Using lime essential oil can help reset our “rest and digest” parasympathetic nervous system and allow us to face stress in the best way possible.

Vanilla

Vanilla absolute is another amazing oil for relaxing the body and mind. In fact, it is known to naturally lower blood pressure when levels get too high because of stressful situations.

Vanilla’s sedating properties also have a calming effect on the brain and nervous system which helps reduce anger, anxiety, stress, and insomnia.

It is vanilla that gives Stress Away its sweet and fragrant aroma, so don’t skip out on it!

Lavender

Lavender essential oil is the classic stress relieving oil and for good reason! It has been found that when inhaled, lavender essential oil increases beta waves in the brain, thus indicating heightened relaxation.

Lavender is also known for reducing symptoms of depression and mental stress.

Cedarwood (atlas)

The high amounts of sesquiterpenes found in cedarwood essential oil (especially the Altas variety) are known to stimulate the limbic part of the brain where we house our emotions and memory. It also stimulates the pineal gland which helps regulate melatonin levels and improves cognitive function.

Cedarwood is one of the best essential oils to use for stabilizing emotions and grounding one’s feelings.

Ocotea

Ocotea is a really interesting essential oil with a spicy, somewhat cinnamon-like aroma that instills a sense of completeness, peace, and tranquility. In fact, in the Amazon, ocotea is known as “false-cinnamon” and was used to flavor sweets.

Traditionally, ocotea was used as an anti-fungal, an anti-inflammatory, and as a disinfectant. Nowadays, ocotea is used to treat hypertension and anxiety by balancing the body’s response to irritation and feelings of frustration.

Hi Tash, if I’ve bought 15ml of YL Haven, how should it be diluted so it is exactly the same as the YL Haven roll on please? I’m confused as someone else said it’s 1:3 dilution of Haven : V6 carrier oil but in yr recipe much less is used (5-8 drops to 10ml in yr recipe as opposed to 3.3ml to 10ml) thanks!

Just made a 15ml bottle. I’m going to let the oils synergize as I still have 1/2 bottle left of Stress Away and won’t need it right away. But I do use this oil frequently so it’s great to have a recipe! Thanks and I’ll let you know how it turns out!

      Hi Sofia!

Ocotea is a very unique oil, so if you don’t have it, I would just leave it out. It’s closely related to cinnamon, but adding cinnamon essential oil to this blend with definitely overpower it! If you are just looking for the therapeutic benefits, then copaiba is the closest oil.
