Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to spice things up and try something new! Unfortunately, many products that are geared towards romance and intimacy are loaded with chemicals, sugar, and other impurities that can be found in things like industrial cleaning products. Yeah. That doesn’t sound very healthy to me especially when applying these to sensitive areas. On top of that, us ladies are more susceptible to infection which is more than enough reason to look into more natural healthier options.
Top 10 Essential Oils for Romance and Intimacy
Essential oils can offer a wide range of support when it comes to the bedroom so I wanted to focus on my top 10 essential oils for romance, allure, and sensuality. You can add them to massage oils, oil-based personal lubricants, linen spray, a homemade candle, or into a diffuser for an evening of spice and intimacy. They’re the perfect place to start your journey to cleaner healthier alternatives!
1. Black Pepper
Black pepper essential oil is an excellent circulatory stimulant making it a wonderful addition to massage oil recipes. If used in minute amounts along with other essential oils, black pepper EO acts as an aphrodisiac that adds a depth and spicy top note to recipes that piques intimate interest. Black pepper essential oil adds interesting subtleties when blended with floral essential oils like ylang ylang, rose, or jasmine.
If you’re looking for a warming, tingling sensation in your homemade recipes, then black pepper is a must!
2. Geranium
Geranium essential oil is one of my favorite essential oils to use in love inspired recipes as it’s an excellent alternative to rose essential oil for supporting emotional balance, reducing anxiety, and opening the heart. It has a robust floral aroma that will brighten and sweeten your DIY Valentine’s Day recipes. Geranium is also a supportive oil for the skin and the female reproductive system.
3. Goldenrod
Goldenrod essential oil is another excellent stimulant for healthy circulation. It promotes a sense of calm in the body and mind which helps promote libido by removing emotional blocks, allowing us to feel more accepting towards others, and opens our hearts to love.
4. Jasmine
Jasmine is a sultry oil that is highly regarded for its influence over sexual troubles like impotence and frigidity. Using it in the diffuser or in a massage oil in very small amounts will bring a lightness to the mood and instill happy emotions into those who use it. Since jasmine is considered an aphrodisiac, it dispels emotional blocks and has calming, uplifting, emotionally warming characteristics that are deeply balancing in regards to the intimate aspect of a relationship.
5. Patchouli
Patchouli essential oil is often a love or hate oil due to its overuse in the 1960s but don’t let that deter you from using it in your romantic blends. When used in small amounts patchouli can give your recipes that subtle earthy undertone that’s a bit more masculine in nature. It’s particularly nice in floral blends and is known to be an excellent “fixative” for extending the volitility of essential oil blends.
6. Peppermint
Peppermint essential oil has a wonderfully fresh, cooling, penetrating, and minty aroma that clarifies the senses of both the mind and physical body. When used in a massage oil or personal lubricant recipe, peppermint essential oil adds a tingling coolness that makes for a fun experience. Try pairing it with black pepper essential oil for a warming yet cooling effect to spice up your evening.
7. Rose otto
Valentine’s Day would not be complete without a rose and rose otto essential oil is one of the truest most ethereal rose oils I’ve ever used. Smelling it from the bottle is just like smelling the freshest most aromatic rose at the peak of its existence. The aroma is sensual, uplifting, and deeply floral. There is perhaps, no better oil to support the reproductive system in both men and women. It improves circulation, has a tonic action on the emotional heart, and has soothing aphrodisiac qualities.
Rose otto is a perfect addition to pillow sprays and massage oils.
8. Rosewood
Rosewood essential oil is one of my go to oils for emotional support and empowerment. It’s an incredibly grounding oil that helps you release negativity and in its place, create peace, security, and a sense of calmness. Rosewood is also beneficial for those losing interest in intimacy due to tremendous stress, workload, or worries as it uplifts emotions and increases the attraction you feel towards your partner.
9. Vanilla
Vanilla is a favorite scent among men and makes for an excellent addition to homemade recipes for the bedroom. It invited sensuality, dissolves negative emotions, and relaxes inhibitions. Vanilla essential oil is rich and warming with a soft sweet scent that pairs perfectly with every other essential oil on this list. Mix a few drops into massage oil, lubricant, or add to the diffuser to enhance intimacy.
Vanilla is especially helpful for those suffering from impotence, erectile dysfunction, frigidity, and loss of libido as it naturally stimulates the secretion of testosterone and estrogen.
10. Ylang Ylang
Ylang ylang is probably one of the most well-known aphrodisiac essential oils. Its heady aroma activates romance and intimacy and is especially beneficial for those who have lost interest in sex. Ylang ylang helps lower stress, relieve anxiety, and supports the nervous system so that you can focus on intimacy and love within your relationship.
Since ylang ylang is such a strong smelling essential oil, you need very few drops to make an impact. I often only use one or two drops in any given recipe as it imparts a delicate floral scent that’s both relaxing and intoxicating. This EO is perfect in massage oil.
