Throughout human history, scent and memories have played a fundamental role in our lives and evolution. The limbic system is closely tied not only with our sense of smell, but also our emotions, certain behaviors, and of course, our long-term memory.
One example of this is the sudden memories that flood our thoughts when we recognize a scent or perfume worn by a lover in a past relationship. Memories stir and reignite feelings and emotions connected to the person who wore them. On Valentine’s Day, wearing romantic essential oil blends is a great way to build lasting memories that won’t soon be forgotten.
Whether you are secretly admiring someone or are in a steadfast relationship, essential oils can lend a sensual touch to any situation.
Romantic Essential Oil Blends for Valentine’s Day
Creating a custom personal scent is always best since it differentiates you from everyone else. However, if you’re looking for a few essential oils that are known to enhance feelings of love and devotion, I’ve got you covered!
Some of the most romantic essential oils include:
- Benzoin – a vanilla-like essential oil that instills happiness and supports healthy emotions
- Cedarwood – a very relaxing oil that improves mood, focus, and spirituality
- Clary sage – stops mind chatter and supports emotional well-being
- Geranium – has a rose-like scent that supports the circulatory system. A very relaxing and stress relieving oil
- Jasmine – enhances confidence and enlivens the senses. Dispels fear and insecurity.
- Patchouli – reduces stress and nervous tension
- Rose absolute – the essence of love, rose essential oils elevate joy and protect our hearts from emotional hurt
- Rose otto – this oil smells like freshly picked roses. It uplifts the mood and instills relaxation and feelings of happiness
- Rosewood – an earthy woodsy oil that enhances emotional stability and empowerment and opens the heart
- Sandalwood – enhances communication and our connection to others
- Vanilla – has a positive influence on the emotions, especially in men
- Ylang ylang – balances emotions and uplifts the mood. Considered an aphrodisiac oil
Rose and ylang ylang are particularly sensuous essential oils that can be added to massage oils, sheet sprays, bubble baths, and can even be used to flavor homemade chocolates (rose is my personal favorite!).
Citrus essential oils like sweet orange, grapefruit, bergamot, mandarin, and tangerine help elevate the mood, uplift the spirits, and instill joy in both the wearer and your partner. They make lovely additions to any Valentine’s Day blend.
