One of the most interesting fields of healing has to do with the ever-flowing energies of the body, and today, I want to talk specifically about the solar plexus chakra and how you can balance it using essential oils.
With origins rooted in ancient Vedic tradition to modern yoga, chakras are the interconnected energy centers/vortices that influence spiritual and emotional expression. It has long been believed (dating as far back as 1000 B.C.) to be one of the most important pathways for spiritual healing.
The word "chakra" comes from the Sanskrit word "wheel" or "vortex". Described as wheels of energy arranged vertically ascending from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, chakras are transfer points for our thoughts and feelings as well as the physical function of specific endocrine glands.
Chakras are believed to be involved in the flow of higher energies via specific subtle energetic channels to the cellular structure of the physical body, and that each absorbs and filters the energy we emit through our thoughts and actions as well the thoughts and action of those around us.
It is this flow of energy through our chakra that influences our personality, our emotions, and our spiritual development.
It is also believed that each chakra spins like a wheel in a clockwise direction, each at its own rate and frequency. When one becomes out of balance as a result of negative energy within ourselves or from others, it will begin to spin too slowly or too quickly resulting in a negative impact on that physical region of the body as well as our spiritual and emotional selves connected to that chakra.
Since each chakra is associated with a major nerve plexus and a minor endocrine gland, you can imagine how much havoc an imbalanced chakra can be!
How to Balance The Solar Plexus Chakra Using Essential Oils
Yellow Chakra Meaning/What is Solar Plexus Chakra?
The yellow chakra, or solar plexus chakra is related to our connection with others but with a strong feeling of independence, individuality, and uniqueness, while celebrating our continued connectedness with all humanity.
The Sanskrit name for the solar plexus chakra is "Manipura" which means "lustrous gem". It is known to resonate with bright yellow light.
The Manipura chakra is known to supply nutritive yet subtle energy to most of the major organs of digestion and purification which include the stomach, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, spleen, adrenals, lumbar vertebrae, and the general digestive system.
From an emotional and spiritual standpoint, the solar plexus chakra is closely linked to the issue of personal power which can be described as a feeling of control over one's life.
Personal power relates to how people view themselves in relation to others in their lives. Those with a "victim mindset" who have no sense of control over their lives will often manifest an imbalance in the solar plexus chakra.
The abuse of others, domination, and anger are also associated with an abnormal function of the yellow chakra.
Other feelings can include:
Low self-esteem or arrogant egotistical behavior
Feeling abandoned or rejected
Feelings like the world revolves around you
Nervousness
Difficulty understanding or controlling emotions
Rebellious or too eager to please
Stressed out
Addictive behaviors
These imbalances can affect the digestive organs of the body as well impair adrenal gland activation during times of stress.
By strengthening and stimulating the solar plexus chakra, you can attain a state in which you can face fear, rejection, criticism, and standing apart from others as you create your own unique identity.
How to Use Essential Oils for Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra
Hands down, two of the best essential oils for re-balancing the yellow chakra are juniper berry essential oil and vetiver essential oil.
Juniper essential oil has the ability to break up psychological stagnation and free up stuck constricted energy in the solar plexus. Its aromatic qualities are also good for evoking feelings of positivity, peace, love, and emotional balance.
Vetiver essential oil is great for use when going to a crowded public place or for any situation where you feel uncomfortable and compare yourself to others or feel "out of control".
To use these oils, simply dilute 1-2 drops in 1 teaspoon od carrier oil (I like to use a roll-on bottle for this) and apply it in a counter-clockwise direction over the naval as needed.
Some other great essential oils to consider include:
Grapefruit essential oil - for moving stagnant energy in the body and alleviating moodiness, tension, irritability, and stress.
Rosemary essential oil - for lack of will and lack of inner fire. helps you get in touch with inner strength.
Mandarin essential oil - alleviates feeling of elevated stress, removes stagnant energy, and helps you release inner tension and feelings of frustration.
Patchouli essential oil - has a calming and tranquilizing effect. Stabilizes the mind and dispels negative circulating thoughts.
