Fertility struggles whether you’re a man or a woman is a very stressful and pressured experience. Even if every other aspect of your life is going as planned, the inability to make a baby can make it all seem pointless. Your mental well-being goes out the window, the stress begins to build, and resentment towards yourself or your partner may begin to escalate.
How to Boost Fertility with Essential Oils
Essential oils are an amazing source of healing for both mind and body because they promote positive emotions and overall wellness. Using them to boost fertility is an enjoyable way to use these powerful plant essences to decrease anxiety, frustration, and the stress associated with trouble conceiving. Feeling like it’s impossible to get pregnant also disrupts hormonal balance making things even more difficult.
The use of essential oils can help positively influence your reproductive system and enhance its ability to make a baby.
So with that said, what essential oils are best for boosting fertility?
For women, there are quite a few and a lot of them can be used for all kinds of different specific reasons which you can learn about here: Essential Oils for Fertility.
There are, however, several oils that really help cover a broader spectrum of issues and they’re great to use for when you really just don’t know why you aren’t conceiving. That said, please keep in mind that fertility issues can be very complex and the reasons you may be having trouble are often a combination of things…sometimes LOTS and lots of things.
Essential oils can help you navigate through the problems and help enhance your chances of conceiving but you will often need more than just essential oils. Essential oils are amazing, but they may not be your holy grail fertility treatment. A healthy lifestyle and the guidance of your doctor should be first on your list!
The oils I list below will give you a good idea of what to try out, my only word of advice is to go with a “less is more” approach. Essential oils are stronger than you may give them credit for. Just Sayin’.
How to Boost Fertility with Essential Oils in Women

Not only will the essential oils help you with fertility they will also ease your mind, lower stress, and uplift your mood which are all good things to consider during this time of healing.

What have been your tried and true essential oils to boost fertility?
Ginger says
had ectopic pregnancy in Dec 2018 and another miscarriage in May 2019. Any oil recommendations for a healthy pregnancy? Both are over 40
Tash says
That's tough! So sorry to hear about your losses 🙁 Essential oils are tricky to use during pregnancy. You can check out my article on the topic here. The best I can advise right now is to try and be as healthy as possible. Get in nutrient-dense foods, get quality sleep, get in daily movement, and get your hormones tested (including thyroid hormones). This will at least give you a great starting point and will help you navigate which oils and herbal supplements you can take.

Tash says
Hi, Jabs!
Are you looking for anything, in particular, to achieve as far as hair goes?
Janie S. says
Can the oils that I feel would benefit me be mixed and applied? Apply all to abdomen and ankles ?
Jessica says
Would you recommend mixing geranium and clary sage to help balance hormones? If so, how much of each oil mixed with how much carrier oil? Where should I apply it?
Tash says
Hi Jessica!
You could mix 6 drops of each oil in 1TB of carrier oil and apply it to the inner and outer parts of the feet and on the lower back 🙂 It would definitely be a good blend to use!

Lee says
Do any of the roll ons for men increase sperm count if so which one if not is there a roll on recipe you could share
Tash says
Hi Lee!
The best oil I've come across in all my research for increasing sperm count has actually been rose absolute! Rose otto is another good one. For both oils, you really only need one drop in a roll-on bottle. You would then apply it to the outside and inside of both feet right under the ankle bone and on the very base of the spine above where the tail bone begins. Do this morning and night.
Best of luck!

I have regular periods (they are much lighter than they used to be) but don't seem to ovulate regularly. I have no fibroids, my tubes are open. My doctor says I have an ovulatory disorder stemming from hormonal imimbalance. Any recommendations? I've gotten clary Sage and Progessence plus. But I don't want to use them incorrectly and REALLY mess up my hormones
Tash says
Hi Sarah!
Have you had your progesterone levels tested or other hormone levels? Essential oils can help, but it's good to know which hormones are out of balance 🙂

Tash says
Hi Joanna!
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles getting pregnant! Have you by chance been to a doctor? Essential oils are wonderful, but they are more of a support system for health and well-being. Without the foundation, EOs can only go so far so I'm wondering what steps you have taken? 🙂
Sabrina says
Hi my husband and i have been trying to conceive for over 8 years and nothing. We went to doctor ans they told my husband he has like no sperm count apparently that is because theyre saying the monthly shots of testosterone have stopped this as he has cowmans syndrome. Please help me make something with essential oil that may help us. Also me my onky problem is i have awful painful monthly periods. I get so moofy and cranky. I also have the most unbearable cramps however my periods only last 2 days if that. I am currently taking something called vitex to mayne help regulate me but any help for us both helping increase chances of us having a baby would be amazing.
Tash says
Hi Sabrina!
For your husband, you may want to try these oils:
Essential Oils for Low Sperm Count
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, low sperm count stems from deficient kidney Qi. Many men who suffer from this can benefit from tonifying the kidneys as well as removing stagnation from the liver.
Essential Oils that Enhance Kidney Qi
• Cedarwood – A powerful Qi tonic for the kidneys
• Geranium – Clears heat, inflammation, and stagnation from the kidneys
• Ginger – Stimulates yang kidney energy
• Juniper – Consolidates the worry and pressure experienced when conceiving is difficult
Apply these oils diluted in carrier oil (1oz of carrier oil and 4 drops of each essential oil) to the lower back, pelvis, vita flex points, and the inner ankles 2-3 times daily. Remember, fertility troubles have to be treated from the inside as well for a diet high in nutrients, healthy sleep patterns, and exercise are all key factors as well.
As for essential oils for PCOS, I am definitely going to be writing a post very soon on this topic that will be of interest to you so stay tuned! 🙂
Ashley says
Hi Tash,
I have PCOS and my husband has some sexual anxiety. Can you recommend a blend for the diffuser in our bedroom? TIA
Tash says
Hi Ashley!
You can always try good ol' lavender for stress and anxiety with a few drops of cedar wood if you have it. I also really like conifer essential oils for brightening the mood. Have your husband smell different oils and see how he feels when smelling them if he likes. Some oils will connect with people better than others when it comes to anxiety.
For PCOS, use essential oils like geranium, rose otto, or clary sage. You can create your own blends to incorporate both of your needs like maybe diffusing a few drops of lavender and geranium (smell it first to see if you like it! No sense in killing the mood with a smell your don't enjoy amiright?).
Best of luck! 🙂

My concern is using a blend that has oils that aren't safe for early pregnancy. If you use the blend and get pregnant and you don't know for a few weeks, do you just keep using it?
Tash says
I have always wondered this myself and will be looking further into this, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can refer to this article for pregnancy safe essential oils. If you see oils that match up with my fertility articles, you can feel at ease using those at the very least!
Best of luck! 🙂

My husband & I have been trying to conceive for 2.5 years. We are willing to try anything. I would like to know which oils you would recommend to use in a diffuser and the recipes.
Tash says
Hi Erica!
Along with good lifestyle changes, getting rid of toxins in your personal and home care products, a healthy diet, and a relaxed mind, essential oils can definitely help with fertility. Have you read my other post as well on the topic? To help me understand your situation better, would it be possible to give me more details on your situation? This will help determine which essential oils are best 🙂
Erica says
My husband & I have been trying to conceive for 2.5 years. I am looking for anything to help with fertility. What oils would you recommend using in a diffuser?
Vicey says
How do you use the EOs? Do you mix them in carrier oils all the time and if so so you only use as a topical oil (on top of the skin)? Do we only apply them to the feet and the mons pubis? I heard that using EOs can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I am trying to learn about this.
Thank you.
Tash says
Hi Vicey!
You can learn more about how to use EOs in my previous articles here and here 🙂 But basically, you would want to dilute an essential oil in carrier oil before use. If you are looking for fertility support, then yes, you would apply them to the corresponding points on the body like the insides of the ankles and the sacral vertebrae of the lower back for best results. The key to safety is to learn learn learn! One book I find most useful is Essential Oil Safety - A Guide for Health Care Professionals. If you can find a cheaper copy, it's definitely worth it. Hope this helps!

When you say another great blend to be used with the first, could you just clarify if you mean the women one? or the men one? Thanks 🙂
Tash says
Hi Stacey!
The men one 🙂
MD says
Do you know how or have a suggestion for applying Eucalyptus Oil to increase cervical mucus?
Tash says
Hi MD!
I know that using lemon eucalyptus essential oil increases cervical mucus so you may want to try that out! Be aware that it smells like citronella so you may want to add a different EO to balance it out like lavender. To apply it, add 5 drops to a bath or add 20 drops to a 1/3oz roll-on bottle with some carrier oil and swipe it on the abdomen and inner right ankle (right around the bone) twice a day.
Hope this helps! <3 Also, be sure to check out my other fertility post HERE for more info 🙂
Andrea says
Hi! Thanks soo much for your post 🙂 I am interested in trying the lemon eucalyptus eo to increase cervical mucus, but just had a quick question. Do you use this every day of your cycle, or is this something you would use after your period but before ovulation? Thanks so much!
