Resinous Rose Facial Serum

As I creep toward my mid-thirties, taking care of my skin is at the forefront of my self-care routine. I want to make sure it's getting everything it needs to stay plump, supple, hydrated, and overall well taken care of so that it ages as gracefully as possible.

That's where this delightful resinous rose serum comes into play.

This serum glides onto the skin and sinks in perfectly leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated without feeling overly oily.

My skin has been loving it and I think yours will too!

Resinous Rose Facial Serum Recipe

This serum is a snap to make and will last you a good while before you need to make another batch.

I've added a 2% dilution of essential oils which is the maximum dilution I recommend for this recipe. Feel free to make it a 1% dilution by adding just 5 drops of frankincense and 1 drop of rose otto 10%.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make your own:

  • One 1 oz dropper bottle
  • 0.5 oz of evening primrose oil
  • 0.5 oz of meadowfoam oil
  • 9 drops frankincense (I have really been loving Fantastic Franks by Plant Therapy)
  • 3 drops rose otto 10% (this is a pre-made dilution of rose otto essential oil in jojoba oil)

If you like, you can even play around with the essential oils a bit by adding a few more anti-aging oils like carrot seed, sandalwood, helichrysum, or geranium. Just make sure the total number of drops of essential oil does not exceed 12 per 1 oz of carrier oil.

I encourage you to look at this blog post to learn about the max dilution of different essential oils.

Loving Preparation - DIY Resinous Rose Facial Serum

  1. Begin by adding each essential oil to the 1 oz dropper bottle.
  2. Next, add the evening primrose oil and fill the dropper bottle with it halfway.
  3. Fill the remaining half (up to the shoulder of the bottle) with meadowfoam oil
  4. Cap closed and roll between the palms to mix.

How To Use the Serum

Spritz clean skin with rose hydrosol then apply 1-3 drops of serum to damp skin in an even layer 1-2 times daily.

Why These Ingredients Work

Evening primrose Oil

The evening primrose oil in this formula offers a multitude of skin benefits including providing nourishing fatty acids that penetrate deeply into the skin making it look vibrant and healthy.

Its anti-inflammatory properties also help reduce redness, swelling, and irritation making it a great oil to use for those with acne, eczema, psoriasis, very dry, or maturing skin.

Meadowfoam Oil

The meadowfoam oil is very similar to jojoba oil in texture (slightly waxy) which means it is very similar to the skin's natural sebum and is therefore well tolerated by most skin types.

Meadowfoam oil is high in antioxidants and soaks into the skin very easily yet leaves a protective barrier on the skin that traps in moisture without any oily residue. It's one of my favorite skincare oils for this reason and is a great alternative to jojoba oil which can cause the skin to purge.

The Essential Oils

Rose otto and resinous frankincense are known for their powerful anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and rejuvenating properties.

Rose otto has long been used for skin care to heal dryness, brighten the complexion, and reduce redness and irritation. Its astringent qualities help tone and tighten the skin which helps prevent mitigate the signs of aging. Plus, it smells divine!

Frankincense is another renowned essential oil when it comes to preserving healthy skin. It is a powerful restorative and healer that is known to help lift, tighten, and tone the skin, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, reduce hyperpigmentation, heal and prevent blemishes, soothe dry and chapped skin, and even help reduce the severity of acne and eczema.

It's really an oil that takes your skincare to the next level!

This serum should keep for a good 6 months if stored in a cool dark place but I doubt you will need to worry about that 😉

I am an asian guy in pre-30s, my EO serum now contains also frankincense and your another recommendation, helichrysum. Besides I blend lavender vera and roman chamomile in. It was meant to be used in very diluted form as soothing massage oil for baby, anyway it's for my face now. One day I checked out the story behind l'Eau de Hongrie, as an inspiration, I dope some rosemary (CT verbenone) in the aforementioned combination, and that really brightens things up. At least now there are few people can really tell if I underslept last night or suffer from hangover.

Hi Tash! What would you suggest I may substitute for the evening primrose oil? I love the potiential benefits of this oil, however, since my skin is recovering from years of acne, I hesitate to use this comedogenic oil on my face.
    Thank you!

You can use whichever carrier oil agrees with YOUR skin 🙂 This will be different for everyone. Maybe check out jojoba, meadowfoam, hemp, etc.

Sounds lovely...is this serum meant to be used under a moisturizer? Also, I have rose essential oil, not labeled rose otto, is this the same? Thank you.

What is the Latin name on the bottle you have? Rose Otto is Rosa x damascena.
