Plant Therapy has outdone themselves this month! When I received the package for October's Oil of The Month Club, I knew it was going to be different than the previous months. For one, the package itself felt hefty, and second, these essential oils are actually ESSENCES.
So, without further ado, here's my review for Plant Therapy's Fruit Essence Set!
Plant Therapy's Oil of The Month - The Fruit Essence Set
When I opened the package, my first thought was "WOW! Three oils this time!?" then an "Oh, they're just three citrus oils?" followed by a "What the heck is an essence oil?", and finally, a "These are AWESOME!".
I had initially thought that Plant Therapy sent just a three-pack of citrus oils - mandarin, lemon, and sweet orange, but upon closer inspection, these are produced differently than traditional citrus essential oils.
Instead of cold-pressing the fresh peels, these essences are extracted from the fresh juice during the volatile point of the juice homogenization phase giving these essences a very intense ester-rich and citrusy aroma - just like peeling and biting into the fresh fruit!
After homogenization, the "essence" floats to the top where it can be collected and put through another process that removes all traces of water from the essence. You not only get the goodness from some of the peel but also the essential oils within the juice itself which gives essences that effervescent and fruity attribute.
It's a really neat way to get even more use out of fresh citrus!
How do You Use Essences?
Essences can be used just like regular essential oils. The main difference will be their extraction method and the notes and intensity of their aroma.
For instance, lemon essence smells different than lemon essential oil but can be used in the same way.
Since essences have such special aromatic characteristics, it is common to use them for inhalation blends to help elevate emotions.
They are wonderful for diffusing, putting in personal nasal inhalers, and creating room and linen sprays.

Fruit Essence Set Review - Green Mandarin, Lemon, & Sweet Orange
Green Mandarin Fruit Essence (Citrus nobilis)
This green mandarin essence has a wonderfully intense aroma that is bright, sweet, and fresh.
Since it is harvested from the green and yellow mandarin fruits instead of the ripe orange ones you find in the produce section, it has a higher content of dimethyl anthranilate which gives it a lovely concord grape note that lends itself well to any blend that needs some extra sweetness.
This essence is emotionally uplifting and helps soothe nervous tension.

Lemon Fruit Essence
Lemon essence has a strong, zesty, and fruity aroma that makes you smile as you smell it. It's so fresh and uplifting that I can't imagine staying grumpy when it's inhaled.
It's a wonderful pick-me-up in the afternoon when you feel like your mental focus and energy start to flag. Instead of drinking caffeine, you can simply sniff a personal nasal inhaler with a few drop of lemon essence and feel refreshed and energized again!
Lemon essence uplifts the emotions, hones mental focus, brightens and lightens the skin, and is especially useful in homemade cleaning recipes.

Sweet Orange Fruit Essence
Sweet orange essence comes to us through the production of fresh orange juice. It has a deliciously juicy, intensely effervescent, and fruity aroma that makes it different than traditional cold-pressed orange essential oil.
It's perfect to use for easing tension and worry, uplifting the emotions, and giving you a bit more pep in your step!
I love using it in my diffuser to help restore mental energy while working. It's also an excellent addition to linen spray!
