DIY Vapor Rub

You don’t need to use chemical laden cold and flu products to results. In fact, making your own versions of the most popular remedies out there will not only help you feel better but will also give your body the chance to recuperate without the extra burden OTC medications put on it.

This simple vapor rub recipe uses an essential oil blend that contains strong antiseptic properties that fight infection and aid in loosening nasal and bronchial congestion. Thick mucus doesn’t stand a chance against these powerful plant allies. They heal you at the source with their antiviral, analgesic, and decongestant properties to help relieve stuffiness, inflamed mucous membranes, and makes coughing more productive.

DIY Vapor Rub

This blend contains a wide array of essential oils, but each has many different uses and applications. Keep in mind too that this recipe is therapeutically concentrated. Use only as directed.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• 4oz dropper bottle
• ½ cup carrier oil of choice (I recommend jojoba, or emu oil for their absorptive qualities)
• 30 drops cajeput essential oil
• 25 drops eucalyptus radiata essential oil
• 15 drops fir needle essential oil
• 15 drop peppermint essential oil
• 5 drops clove essential oil
• 5 drops thyme essential oil

Loving Preparation – DIY Vapor Rub

Add each essential oil to the 4oz dropper bottle. I tend to make this in a 15ml essential oil roll-on now for even easier use! Just divide the recipe by 5.

Next, add the jojoba oil until you reach the shoulder of the bottle.

Cap closed and then gently shake to combine.

Don’t forget to label the bottle for future use. This is a strong recipe so you don’t want to forget what it is!

To Use:

At the onset of a respiratory cold, shake the bottle well and then apply a drop or two under your nose, on your temples, throat, chest, and the bottoms of your feet.

Massage the drops into the skin until absorbed.

Cup your hands over your nose and mouth and breath in deeply for 3-4 breaths to help clear congestion in the sinuses and lungs.

Use this blend throughout you cold 2-3 times per day for best results.

This blend also works well for fungus infections on the hands and feet. Simply apply 2 drops of DIY vapor rub to the affected nails and rub in until absorbed.
