One of the things I always have on hand in my bathroom is a variety of products to use for masking odor. This includes a few candles, a stick of incense, matches, homemade air freshening spray, and my personal favorite - my copycat poo pourri bathroom spray.

Above all the other options, this one is the best for dispelling unpleasant bathroom smells before they can even begin.

Simply spritz 5-8 sprays into the toilet bowl before doing your doody and you're good to go - quite literally.

I've made DIY poo pourri bathroom spray before, but it lacked one key feature of the original spray you can buy at the store - solubility. Granted, it works really well for masking odor, but it doesn't quite have that "filmy" texture that allows it to coat the surface of the water in the toilet bowl.

Adding a dispersant will also keep the ingredients mixed between uses and will give it that milky look that the original has.

How to Make The Closest Copycat Poo Pourri Bathroom Spray

I like to make this in a 4oz sized spritzer bottle, but feel free to make a smaller or larger batch based on your needs. You can even make one large batch that can be used to refill the bottles of homemade poo pourri for every bathroom in your house.

Here's what you'll need to make my copycat poo pourri bathroom spray recipe:

• One 4oz spritzer bottle
• 1TB vodka, rubbing alcohol, or witch hazel
• ¼ teaspoon sulfated castor oil (aka turkey red oil - this is what keeps the ingredients mixed between uses)
• ⅛ teaspoon xanthan gum (this thickens the spray and also helps keep the ingredients thoroughly mixed between uses)
• 100 drops of essential oil
• Distilled water

Essential Oil Recommendations

For this recipe, it's best to focus on fresh smelling essential oils like:

• Eucalyptus
• Grapefruit
• Lavender
• Lemon
• Lemongrass
• Peppermint
• Pine
• Rosemary

Essential Oil Recipes for Homemade Poo Pourri

These recipes will include the amount of essential oil required for a 4oz sized bottle of homemade poo pourri bathroom spray.

If you have small children in your home who may be using this spray, then I recommend reading this article first on which essential oils are safe to use for children.

• 30 drops pine essential oil
• 20 drops lemon essential oil
• 20 drops rosemary essential oil
• 20 drops lavender essential oil
• 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil

• 50 drops grapefruit essential oil
• 40 drops lemon essential oil
• 10 drops peppermint essential oil

• 50 drops lavender essential oil
• 50 drops lemongrass essential oil

• 40 drops eucalyptus essential oil
• 30 drops peppermint essential oil
• 30 drops lavender essential oil

• 50 drops lemon essential oil

• 60 drops lemon essential oil

Loving Preparation - Copycat Poo Pourri

1. In a small dish, thoroughly mix the xanthan gum and vodka together until there are no lumps then add the mixture to the 4oz bottle.

2. Next, add in the sulfated castor oil, the essential oils, and then the distilled water.

3. Cap closed and shake thoroughly to mix.

To Use

Before going number two, lift the toilet seat and spray 5-8 sprays of copycat poo pourri bathroom spray into the toilet bowl.

Do your business as usual but without the stink!

The spray will create a film on the surface of the water that helps trap odors before they can assault your senses.
