With cold and flu season approaching it’s more important than ever to have a few tried and true remedies on hand to help ease symptoms. One of my favorite ways to stay well all year round is by using essential oils to help keep my immune system strong, but sometimes I still catch a cold despite my efforts.
Whenever I get sick, I almost always know before it hits me full force because I get that tell-tale scratchiness in the back of my throat. As soon as I notice it, I know I have just a few hours before I start experiencing a full-blown sore throat.
To help stave off the worst of it, I’ve found that using a good blend of essential oils in what must be the simplest throat spray recipe I’ve ever seen, really helps restore a bit of moisture to dry tissues in the throat while also numbing pain.
Super Simple Sore Throat Spray Recipe
This handy little throat spray had been my holy grail remedy when I wake up at night when the soreness in my throat is just too agonizing to ignore. All I have to do is reach into the drawer in my bedside table, grab the spray, and sprits the back of my throat.
Wham. Bam. Done.
The pain immediately subsides and I’m able to go back to sleep while the oils do their work.
So, what’s the recipe you ask? Well, I’m not even sure it can really be called a recipe because it’s so easy.
Nonetheless, here’s what you’ll need to make it:
• A tiny spray bottle (you can use a larger one if desired, just make sure to adjust the amount of EO you’ll need)
• Filtered water
• A single drop of homemade four thieves blend which you can learn how to make here
Loving Preparation – Sore Throat Spray Recipe Using Essential Oils
1. Simply add a single drop of four thieves essential oil blend to the spray bottle.
2. Next, very carefully and very slowly pour in enough water to leave a little bit of space at the top. Just a tiny bit more than ¾ full.
3. Cap closed and shake well before each use.
To Use
Whenever your throat feels dry, scratchy, sore, or even if you’re simply trying to keep from catching a cold at work or school, simply spritz the back of your throat with an even layer of throat spray.
Let the spray sit a moment if possible to allow the oils to coat your throat before swallowing.
Use as often as needed.
Why Thieves Essential Oil Works
Four thieves essential oil blend traditionally contains essential oils like clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary which are all known to be excellent for killing bacteria, viruses, and other germs.
I especially love the clove for its local anesthetic properties because it makes this blend perfect for the pain associated with an inflamed sore throat.
Cinnamon bark essential oil is known to be the most potent anti-bacterial essential oil. Having it in this blend allows for quicker healing because it not only kills existing bacteria but also prevents it from replicating and spreading.
Lemon essential oil acts as an excellent antiseptic and helps stimulate the immune system while rosemary and eucalyptus help reduce inflammation, ease cough, and help cool hot and sore tissues.
Some other blends to consider include for this simple spray recipe include:

Edens Garden Fighting Five

You've just saved my son! He used several sore throat lozenges yesterday and irritated his tongue. They did little for his throat, of course. I've been educating myself on EOs for several years now. Can't believe I haven't stumbled onto your site before. I appreciate your explanation of each oil and the fact that you go beyond the commonly known EOs. I've bookmarked your site for all my future needs!
Thanks and Be Well!
