Acidosis is a condition where the pH of the blood serum becomes excessively acidic which can stress the liver and may lead to many forms of chronic and degenerative conditions. Eating a diet high in non-inflammatory foods like fresh fruits and vegetables can help make the body more alkaline.
One of my favorite ways to up my body’s alkalinity is to squeeze half a lemon in some room temperature water and drink it first thing in the morning.
I know it sounds so cliché, but it’s seriously one of the best things you can do for your body since it raises alkalinity and helps the body excrete wastes.
Some other benefits of raising the body’s alkalinity include:
• Bacteria and viruses can’t live in an alkaline environment
• Protecting our blood vessels from plaque formation
• Prevents calcium from accumulating in the urine
• Decreased risk of kidney stones and kidney disease
• Decreased inflammation in the body
• Reduced pain
• Better mineralization in the body
• Reduced muscle spasms
• Stronger tissues and organs
• Stronger immune system
• Reduced allergies
Focusing on a diet high in plant-based foods and using essential oils can quickly balance the body’s pH levels and improve health!
There are three main steps to follow before you can get the most out of alkalizing essential oils.
1. Eat alkaline-rich foods
What we eat plays a HUGE roll in the acidity of our bodies, and it can be quite the guessing game. Citrus, which everyone knows is highly acidic, is actually incredibly alkalizing for the body. This is why lemon water is all the rage these days.
Get in plenty of fresh citrus like lemon, lime, grapefruit, and orange to help up hydration, vitamins and minerals, and balance your body’s pH levels.
Other foods that are alkaline-rich include all fresh fruits and vegetables.
Processed sugar is one of the most acid-inducing foods out there and should be the first thing you cut from your diet.
I think as long as you eat plenty of fresh fruits and greens, you will be able to keep your body at a balanced pH level.
We all inherently know which foods are good for us and which foods are bad for us. Top up on the good foods, and you’ll be fine!
2. Breathe Deeply
Getting in some good deep breaths helps alkalize the body and balance pH levels. When we breathe shallowly or hold our breath, we are actually making ourselves more acidic.
Take some time to practice meditation, breathing exercises, or just do a nice long breath in and breath out when you remember to help center the mind and body while also giving your body an alkaline boost.
3. Keep Your Kidneys Happy
Drinking enough water, especially water that is fortified with electrolytes and trace minerals, is a great way to keep the kidneys flushed and less acidic.
If you find your urine to be too dark or yellow, it means that you need to drink a bit more water in order to reduce the acidity in your body.
The amount of water you should drink daily will be different for each person, so drink what feels right for your body.
