Essential Oil Quick Usage Guide - Abrasions

I feel like children are most often the ones who sport abrasions. No matter how many times you tell them not to run on the gravel or to be careful skateboarding down a steep hill, they always need to learn from experience, and that means getting cuts, scrapes, and abrasions.

The Best Essential Oils for Abrasions

An abrasion is a scrape or graze consisting of superficial damage where the skin has been worn away by wearing, grinding, or rubbing on a rough or hard surface. A dental abrasion is where there is a loss of tooth structure by mechanical forces caused by a foreign element.

Either way, abrasions sting like the dickens and there is no better feeling than slathering on some healing essential oils that cool, soothe, and relieve pain.

Essential Oils for Abrasions

These essential oils are known for their antibacterial properties and their soothing nature on open wounds.

– Frankincense
– Lavender
– Manuka
– Myrrh
– Niaouli
– Roman chamomile
– Tea tree
– Thyme linalool

Essential Oil Recipes for Abrasions

Recommended Blend #1

– 1 drop tea tree
– 1 drop clove (a local anesthetic – can be omitted)
– 1 drop rosemary
– 1 drop niaouli

Clean the abrasion well with soap and water, then mix 4 drops of lavender essential oil (or the recipe above) in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and apply it on and around the abrasion. Coconut oil works well for this as it is antibacterial in nature.

Recommended Blend #2

This recipe makes 2 oz of abrasion salve.

– .25 oz beeswax
– 2 oz carrier oil
– 15 drops lavender
– 10 drops tea tree
– 5 drops Roman chamomile

Melt the beeswax and carrier oil together in a double boiler.

Once melted, remove from the heat, let cool a moment, then add in the essential oils.

Stir to combine then pour in a 2 oz tin.
